Getting ready for your fur baby

Once you have decided to get your new fur baby, you will need to prepare. Now this sounds alot harder then it really is.

Since this is going to be your only puppy in the house there are things you will need to get. You will need to get a food and water bowl. English Bulldog are very sloppy drinkers. I would recommend an elevated bowl that catches the water. These are pricey but your floors will thank you. The picture below is what I bought and love it. It can all be taken apart to clean. It catches water in the bottom.

If you are going to kennel train your puppy (which I highly recommend) you will need to buy a kennel and figure out where you are going to want to put it in your house. I would suggest getting a kennel that your puppy can't move around to much in at first. You will upgrade the sizes when they start growing. You want your puppy to be able to stand and turn around comfortably. At first I wouldn't put any fancy blankets in their kennel. Start with puppy pad, old towels or old sheets. That you won't care if you have to throw them away.

You will need to get your puppy some toys. I recommend getting some chew bones that have little nubbies on them. Make sure they are not to hard but also not soft enough that your puppy can shred them and eat the pieces. A good rule is if you hit yourself in the knee with a dog bone and it hurts then it is to hard for your puppy. Get some balls and squeaky toys as well. Just always remember when your puppy is playing with a toy make sure you watch them. Puppies can destroy a toy very quickly and sometimes it is hard finding toys that your puppy won't tare apart. I know with my English bull dog she can destroy a toy in the about five minutes, but if she really likes a toy she won't destroy it. Sometimes its just them being picky.

You will also need to get dog food. You can get a puppy food. The thing to always remember is you want a high protein dog food. I would also suggest reaching out to the breeder you are buying your puppy from to see what dog food they are using. I found it very helpful to start out using that dog food then slowing transtioning to the dog food you want to feed your puppy.

You will also need bathing supplies. Get you some good nail clippers, if you plan on doing their nails yourself. If you start clipping their nails young enough you will get them use to it. So when they are older it won't be such a fight. You will also need some shampoo. An oatmeal base shampoo works really well for English Bulldogs. I also use an antifungal shampoo. Because they have so many fat rolls they are very accessible to getting yeast infections on their skin. Baby whips are a must have as well. All natural fragrance free is what you will need.

Getting a vet found is alway a very important part of getting a puppy. Make sure you look at reviews and what times they are open. You want to make sure the vet you pick will be open around your schedule. That way you don't get irritated at your puppy, for having to miss work to take them to the vet for their puppy appointment. You will also need a hardness and lense. Most vets require that your fur baby be on one for their appointments.
