Puppy Proofing your house
I would like to discuss with you on how to puppy proof your house. Some of these tips you might roll your eyes at but trust me it will take some of the stress from getting a new puppy away.
Puppies in general are very curious and adventurous creatures. They, just like human baby's, figure out what stuff is by putting it in theirs month. Which can become very dangerous if you don't puppy proof your house. I know every ones house is different, but if you have any questions after this blog please ask me. I would also like to hear of any other tips I didn't mention.
The most important thing that comes to my mind is electric cords. We don't think about our phone charger cord lying on the floor, or on furniture, but it can be very deadly to a puppy. It only takes a couple of seconds for your puppy to chew on that cord and electrocute themselves. For a little puppys little heart it doesn't take a big shock to be damage. Its not only phone charger cords, any electric cord that you have laying around for easy access to your puppy is very dangerous. All you have to do is cover those cords, put them away, and if you can change a location of a cord move something in front of it so the puppy can't get access to it. (Remember not to cover it in a way that it could start a fire either.)
Baby gates come in handy as well. When we got our English Bulldog puppy. We put up a baby gate to block off our bedroom. For one the bedroom is the only room that had carpet puppies have accidents, and the other reason all of our shoes was stored in our bedroom. Now with saying that I think you need train your dog the word no, but English Bulldogs puppies are one stubborn, and two if you are having to go take a shoe away from your puppy every five minutes and getting on to them. It puts a lot of stress and negatively on your new relationship. (Disclaimer do not ever step over the baby gate! I will talk about this more in a later blog).
Make sure your puppy can't get ahold of any medications, to not put your medication on your coffee table, in your purse on the floor, or just anywhere your puppy can reach. Human medication can be very dangerous to puppy and dogs.
Last but not least make sure do don't have any small toys or items that could be easily swallowed. Like I said previously puppies like to put everything in their mouth. Since they put everything in their month, they could eat something they aren't supposed to. If it is not small enough to pass on its own. Then your puppy would need to have emergency surgery to remove the item. Which not only are very pricey, but put a lot of stress and strain on your puppy.
If you have any questions or suggestions about anything I didn't mention please don't hesitate to reach out to me. I hope you have a lovely day.
